Sanseru三十六手

Sanseru (三十六手, "Thirty-Six Hands") is named for the number 36, which in Chinese martial arts tradition represents 6 × 6 — a number with cosmological significance relating to vital points and strategic combinations. It is one of the longer classical kata.

Sanseru features dynamic kicks (including a jumping kick in some lineages), sweeps, close-range elbow and knee attacks, and transitions between ne-ko-ashi-dachi and deep shiko-dachi. The embusen moves in multiple directions with complex directional changes. Together with Seiyunchin it represents the peak of the kyu syllabus and is frequently performed at grading to Shodan.
