Sepai十八手

Sepai (十八手, "Eighteen Hands") takes its name from the number 18, which in Chinese tradition is 3 × 6 — linked to the Buddhist concept of 18 types of empty-hand techniques. It is the first of the senior Dan-grade kata.

Sepai is a compact, fast-paced kata with sudden directional changes, spinning techniques, drop-to-floor sequences and an intricate use of open-hand strikes. Its bunkai include throws, chokes and limb controls, reflecting the depth of the classical Naha-te tradition. The speed and precision required make it a formidable form at both competition and grading.
