Shisochin四向戦

Battle in Four Directions

Also known as: Shisouchin

Angle: Main

4th–3rd KyuGoju-ryu

About this kata

Shisochin (四向戦, "Battle in Four Directions") is a mid-level classical kata that emphasises attacks and defences directed to all four compass points. It is notable for its extensive use of ippon-nukite (one-finger spear-hand), shotei (palm heel) and haito (ridge-hand) — making it one of the richest open-hand kata in the Goju-ryu syllabus.

The applications involve joint-locks, nerve strikes and eye attacks delivered from multiple angles, expressing an advanced understanding of vulnerable targets on the body. Shisochin is typically taught at higher kyu grades and is regarded as a bridge to the advanced Dan kata.
